Currently in Los Angeles County, there are hundreds of children whose name appear on a waiting list. With their lives in limbo, they are waiting for an adoptive home. Siblings are ofter split, hoping to one day reunite in a place they can call home.
The children in care are comprised of sibling sets and individuals from newborn to 17 years-old. Almost all are African American and Latino. Unable to live with their birth families, these children are dependents of the Juvenile Court often due to abuse, neglect and abandonment.
Children come into foster care for a variety of reasons including drug abusing or mentally ill parents, domestic violence, and physical abuse to name a few. Many are healthy and well adjusted, while some may have suffered the affects of maltreatment and display behavioral issues or emotional challenges.
There is a greater need for families equipped to parent school-aged children, sibling sets of two or more and minority children. You can help them transition from crisis by providing patience, love and acceptance.
In need of a nurturing environment to restore their physical and emotional wellness, these children are waiting for you to respond.
